Special Birthdays.

Our class is celebrating two special birthdays this week.  They are David and Corenilias and they both have turned 6 years old this week.

We wish you both a very happy birthday and many happy returns!!  🎂 🎂 🎉 🎉

Friday Clubs.

In Team 2 there are four different clubs.  Mrs Carter - Engage, Miss Davis - Cooking, Ms Teleso - Culture Club, and Ms Gatson - Blogging.  This week we were lucky to have more time at our clubs as there was no whole school assembly.  Team 4 are on their final day of camp.

The Culture Club looked at how traditional tapa cloth is made. The name tapa is a general term for barkcloth, with each country having its own specific term. The making of tapa varies according to the country of origin, but generally the production follows the same process.

Designs are either printed or painted on free-hand.  Dyes come from the berries. leaves and bark of a range of plants.

Collecting from our vegetable garden.

At Makerspace with Mr Vogt, our group got to harvest/hauhake gather silverbeet and spinach from our vegetable garden. Which we are lucky to take home.

We learnt not all vegetables grow at the same time, but are seasonal/ā-kaupeka. growing in a particular season. Lettuce, carrots, spring onions, silverbeet and spinach are all available all year around.

These are also nutritional/taioranga -  healthy food that is good for us.  Spinach can be used to make a nice omelette with onions, tomatoes, mushrooms and capsicum.  For baked frittata, you can use leaves of the silverbeet, finely sliced, with diced onion, eggs, milk, grated kumara and ground pepper to taste.

Last day of swimming.

It has come to our very last day of swimming. For the past two weeks, we learnt valuable water skills and techniques from our wonderful aquatic instructors. Thank you for encouraging us to be confident in the water and learning new skills.

We enjoyed our last activity.  It was a fun game of which team is the fastest to get to the other side
without falling off their mat.  We all hopped onto a mat, getting to hold on tight. When everyone was on board, we all kicked together, with legs straight and making lots of splashes. At the same time, we couldn't stop laughing, because it was so much fun.

Our instructor helped us, by pulling our mat forward. Some of us fell into the water, but we managed to get back on and kept going.  We are all champions at the end!!

It was a beautiful afternoon to walk down to the pools.

Welcome Mrs Collins.

Every Thursday, Mrs Collins will be teaching our class how to be "Cybersmart".  

Being Cybersmart empowers ourselves, as learners to be connected citizens. When our learning is visible and accessible, anytime, any place, at any pace, we learn to make smart decisions and understand that every time we connect, collaborate and share online it combines to create our digital footprint.

Friday Clubs.

Every Friday after assembly, Team 2 has clubs. Ms Teleso takes the Niuean Culture Club, they are going to learn some of the Niuean language and songs, crafts and some cooking! With Fia Fia coming up, this would be ideal for the group to join in and perform.

Ms Davis with Mrs Crake, takes the gardening club. This group spent most of it outside on the first day. Doing a great job tidying the area, making it ready for next week. We look forward to what they would be planting in the gardens in the coming weeks ahead.

Duffy Award and Lunch Box Heroes.

Great start to the new school year to Darren and Malakai.  Darren received our first Duffy Certificate for a fantastic start on the first week and showing the Pt. England Way.  Malakai one of the lucky  recipients drawn from the lunch box heroes draw, every Friday at assembly.  Congratulations to you both.
