Smart Relationship Qualities

How do we know how to interact with others online and make smart decisions about what information I share?  Smart learners need to
  • maintain positive and supportive online relationshiops
  • make smart decisions about how and who they interact with online
  • understand what to do when something doesnt't seem right
  • know what to do when things go wrong.
Smart Relationship Qualities:
Today we learnt about Smart Relationship Qualities. What qualities do we see in our friends and also ourselves that makes us a good friend? We came up with respectful, friendly, kind, being fair, awesome, fun and inclusive.  Last week we got in pairs and took a photo of our friend and chose five qualities which attributes who they are.

How do we apply these qualities in a team building exercise?  We are learning about Smart Relationship qualities by creating and sharing.  The instructions were to build the highest tower with
twelve dry, thin spaghetti pasta and eight marshmallows. Share by working and thinking as a team, what can we create to assemble together and the challenge could our tower stand tall?  It seems more tricker than we think!

We had a quick recap what qualities would be useful when working together.  Show respect by listening to ideas, everyone in the group is involved and nobody is left out, being kind by encouraging others and everyone's contribution counts.

Goal: How to build a tall spaghetti and marshmallow tower.

It became a competition which team can build the highest tower.  There were lots of planning, communication happening of what would work best,  and positive talk of helping each other.  Khaing Shwe came up with the idea to half the marshmallow, so that she has extra to work with. Tatiana started to build her foundation from the bottom and build by like a pyramid.  Sa and Taina worked well as a team of two, communicating both ways and laughing when it didn't work. Great motivation and being kind to each other is how Mariposa, Shyla, Pesi and Logan. Jaxon, Ariyana, Maung Maung and Cayden thought if we can use half the length of the spaghetti this might work, than using the whole.

We found out at the end, some techniques don't work, even though we tried by many attempts. It takes a lot of patience but overall it was a lot fun and an awesome team building activity. Congratulations to Sa and Taina as they were the winners. Everyone is winner too, because one of our school's korero is "Champions Never Give Up".
