Matariki Day with Team 2
In June/July, Matariki re-appears in the dawn sky – signalling the start of the Māori New Year - Te Matahi o te Tau.
It is a time to celebrate new life, to remember those who’ve passed, plan for the future and to spend time with whānau and friends to enjoy kai (food), waiata (song), tākaro (games)and haka.
On the final day of Term 2, we had a whole school celebration for Matariki.
In Team Two we got to experience making glitter playdough, paper kites, baking star cookies and using clay to create our own wakas.
It was an fun-filled day. Special thank you to Mrs Wilson for joining us and taking part with our celebration.
Joelle and McKenna kneading the shortbread dough before it was rolled out flat and cut into star shapes.
It's Akanesi and Teulia's turn to knead the dough, as Tone in the background waits for his turn.
